Why Your Support Matters for Our Move to Lesotho
Jesse&Co was actually born in Lesotho in September 2017 while listening and discovering the fact the girls would not go ton school for about 5 to 7 days due to the fact it was that time of the month and they were now young ladies. Poverty in most of these rural areas are a reality. Not having money to purchase sanitary wear they would use old clothes or toilet paper and stay at home.
It was in this that Jackie’s heart was stirred to find an alternative for these girls so they could attend school the whole month. Through Gods grace Jackie received a random email, or was it random email about washable sanitary pads in Uganda. (add)
We started a small group at church in 2018 to start manufacturing pads. We got donations from people who liked the initiative and we put our money in where we were short. In 2019 we went to MDT with OM in Pretoria for 2 years. We left a group of faithful woman who continued to make pads.
When we returned we realized for this initiative to go where it needs to go it will have to get a name and be registered so funds could be raised and opportunities to be created for people to be involved.
Our hope and prayer was that we could make pads that could be distributed free of charge to those in need. This would be done by other missionaries going to the field where they would be needed. it was important to us that it was a scenario of giving fish(pads) but to teach how to fish(how to make pads) with what they had.
What we also realized that there had to be a mindset change that these pads were not disposable and can be washed and used again. Thus it became a whole entity of its own with learning to make and learning to care for the pads and also distributing them so they would have enough each month.
GOD gave us opportunities in Lesotho and we saw how well this was received, and that is when we realized that many of the older ladies can’t see properly, even to thread a needle.( and we would encourage them to read their Bible… how can they, they couldn’t see properly).
In urban areas many communities and schools are given pads for the girls, not only do these end up in landfills, but the ladies would rather through away disposables than wash reusable, and this is where the mind set must come in.
At this moment Jesse&Co is been registered as a NPC which we are excited about as we hope to reach more people by going to Lesotho
